Commentary
The clouds that capped Fuji in the previous plate have now opened up in the shape of a belt.
Next to a swift mountain stream that drives the mill to the right, farmers carry sacks of grain, escorted by two samurai in traveling attire, a water buffalo is led by its reins; figures who, immersed in their daily lives, by contrast exalt the one who manages to detach from it, to perceive the divine, in an authentic relationship with beauty. Thus the figure of the itinerant monk filled with admiration in observing Fuji surrounded by the thin cloud in which tradition recognizes the hermit and poet Saigyo Hoshi (1118-1190).
The branches of the large oblique pine emphasize the true focal point of the scene.
On the samurai's cloak, the character fu, meaning “fortune,” “abundance,” “Fuji.”

The gallery deals exclusively with original prints: lithographs, etchings, woodcuts, and screenprints from the 20th century, as well as a selection of Japanese prints by Masters such as Hokusai, Hiroshige, and Utamaro, and contemporary artists specializing in art prints. Each print is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity on letterhead, with precise information on the author, technique, condition, and, where available, edition size, references to catalogues raisonnés, and bibliography.
What are the dimensions of the artwork?
The actual image dimensions are provided in centimeters or millimeters, in the order of height by width. Upon request, it is also possible to obtain the dimensions of the white margins of the print sheet. Some works include renderings that offer an indicative simulation of the framed artwork displayed as a decorative element.
