Collection: Massimo Campigli

Among the most recognizable figures of 20th-century Italian art, Massimo Campigli developed an archaizing pictorial and graphic language, deeply influenced by his fascination with Etruscan art, rediscovered and fully appreciated around the age of thirty. Rigorous geometries and a palette of warm and earthy tones, a clear reference to the technique of ancient fresco, find in his graphic production a dimension of extreme formal precision, where space is organized in a rhythmic and repetitive manner and the human figure is reduced to an archetypal symbol.
In his vast production of lithographs and engravings, Campigli constantly reworked his favorite iconographic themes: emblematic are his "hourglass women", representing either alone or in the act of weaving or sewing, often in choral visions.
