Nathalie Vieilleville is a French artist who works with images and words, creating small ironic engravings enhanced with embroidery, watercolors, and collages.
Words, in fact, complete and guide the interpretation of an image and give everyday life, with its monotonous aspect, a renewed poetry. Decomposing, recomposing, fragmenting, and assembling are verbs familiar to her because they are part of her creative research process: associating words and objects that, at first glance, have nothing to do with each other, but that upon closer inspection offer a hidden message.
The subjects she prefers are moments that mark everyday life, such as preparing breakfast or doing laundry, and the objects that populate these moments, chosen for their ability to bring a smile and, why not, to open up an unexpected reflection. The everyday life that Vieilleville depicts, in fact, sometimes takes on concerns related to the female condition, which for too long has been associated only with the domestic sphere.
