Collection: Vasarely Victor
(Pecs 1908 - Paris 1997)
Painter and graphic artist Victor Vasarely, born in Hungary and later settled in Paris, is one of the founders of the optical art movement. In the early period, the artist created a plastic alphabet whose infinite combinations determined the birth of a “cerebral and methodical art”.
He then gradually abandoned the applied arts to orient himself towards an abstract pictorial creation. In 1955 he wrote the Yellow Manifesto , in which he defined kinetic art. His compositions became increasingly complex, the geometric elements combined, interlocked, permuted and assembled to approach the cellular structure.
The artist is also interested in physics, architecture, industry and wants his language to be universal. He comes to conceive an entire building, thus concretizing his conception of art in the city.
The gallery houses his original lithographs and silkscreens, as well as the poster he created for the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games.
