Collection: Shin-hanga (Hasui, Koitsu and others)

Often referred to as Neo-ukiyo-e, Shin-hanga is a Japanese artistic movement that developed at the beginning of the 20th century and brought back into fashion the traditional Ukiyo-e print, whose maximum expression and diffusion had occurred in the previous two centuries.
Pervaded by a nostalgic and romantic vision of a Japan undergoing great transformation, most of the prints by Shin-hanga artists represent quiet places immersed in a veiled and soft light with dreamy atmospheres, in which to observe the rural roots and the traditional wooden architecture that is gradually disappearing from the urban landscape of Tokyo and the big cities.
Among the main exponents we remember Hasui Kawase, who reproduces almost exclusively landscapes and city views that do not fall within the meishō genre (of famous places), lake and seascapes far from the tourist routes. Tsuchiya Koitsu who stands out for his ability to recreate light effects of particular tension and lyricism. Okada Koichi, known for his splendidly detailed woodblock prints depicting Mount Fuji. Finally, Eiichi Kotozuka, one of the founders of the publishing house Koryokusha, important for his prints of Japanese cultural traditions, flowers, landscapes and wildlife.

Hasui Kawase (Tokyo 1883 - Tokyo 1957)
Koitsu Tsuchiya (Hamamatsu 1870 - Chigasaki 1957)
Yoshida Hiroshi (Kurume 1876 - Tokyo 1950)
Kotozuka Eiichi (Osaka 1906 - 1981)

Koichi Okada (Tokyo 1907 - ?)
