Collection: SHIN-HANGA (Hasui Kawase and others)

Also often referred to as Neo-ukiyo-e, Shin-hanga is a Japanese art movement that developed at the beginning of the 20th century and revived traditional ukiyo-e printmaking, whose greatest expression and diffusion occurred in the preceding two centuries.
Permeated by a nostalgic and romantic vision of a Japan undergoing profound transformation, most Shin-hanga artists’ prints depict quiet places bathed in veiled, soft light and dreamlike atmospheres, offering glimpses of rural roots and traditional wooden architecture that is gradually disappearing from the urban landscape of Tokyo and other major cities.
Among the leading exponents is Hasui Kawase, who reproduced almost exclusively landscapes and city views that do not belong to the meishō genre (famous places), as well as lakeside and seascapes far from tourist routes.
