The gallery opens its new autumn season with an incursion into contemporary art: “Golden Shadows” by Enrica Salvadori begins with a reflection on architecture as a vital space, as a story of the boundaries and beauty we carry inside and outside ourselves. In her imagination, buildings become a collage of parts of ourselves, affectionate and protective containers and, at the same time, sources of instability. At the center of everything is the shadow: not as an optical effect, but as the projection of an object’s essence, which finds a new identity and a new possibility of existing in the shadow.
In the exhibition, this idea takes two complementary forms. On the one hand, the sculptures: small architectures in white terracotta, resin-coated plaster or marble, from which a polished brass silhouette emerges—an intangible shadow made tangible, golden because it is precious, reflective because it mirrors those who look at it and the surrounding space. On the other hand, the collages on paper, where the same projection becomes light, ethereal and drawn with gold leaf: for Salvadori, gold is light and shadow at once, changing its appearance depending on where it is viewed from. The title of the exhibition alludes precisely to this double movement: matter becoming light on paper, light becoming weight and form in brass. White and gold, and nothing else.

“I have always had an excessive fascination with sculpture and installations, and sheets of paper have always served me to build models and prototypes. Then, during the artistic residency for Germinale Monferrato in September 2024, after completing the sculpture dedicated to the ruins of the tower of Tonco, I found myself in the small chapel that housed my studio, with a beautiful golden light reflecting the brass of the sculpture onto a sheet of paper. On the table were remnants of gold leaf that I had used on some photocopies, and automatically the sculpture transformed into a golden pool on the paper. Ever since my academy days, I have loved drawing a sculpture after creating it: from a living form during the modeling process to a still life on the drawing sheet. And so it is with these gold leaves on paper: still lifes of shadows and, at the same time, living forms of light.”
