Collection: Atsuko Ishii

(Tokyo 1970)

Atsuko Ishii is a Japanese artist who has been living in France since 1995. Her colorful limited edition prints depict fragments of everyday life, interpreted with humor, offering a different perspective on the ordinary.
The precision of the line on the copper plate, the fine cuts on the masks, show an excellent mastery of the traditional etching technique, which in her works is renewed especially thanks to the chosen subjects, inspired by what she sees in a somewhat vintage magazine or during a walk in the city.
Over the years, Ishii has developed a personal vocabulary and imagery, made up of characters, especially female ones, animals, flowers, fruits, architectural elements, landscapes that appear and disappear. A world that at first glance may seem naive, but upon closer inspection reveals itself to be profound, winking, and sometimes mischievous.
