Collection: BR1
(Locri 1984)
BR1 lives and works in Turin. He focuses his research on the contradictions of our time: migrations, borders, cultural identities, and female representation. He investigates the deconstruction of Eurocentric values, the relationships between identity and migration, and between globalization and tradition. He acts in public spaces promoting an ephemeral and spontaneous approach: hand-painted posters, performative actions, and installations give visibility to migrants, women, and marginalized communities, overturning stereotypes and dominant narratives. Through powerful and direct images, BR1 denounces physical and mental barriers and invites us to rethink the Mediterranean not as a frontier of exclusion, but as a place of meeting and sharing.
BR1 was selected for Manifesta 12 Biennale 2018 in Palermo and was one of the official artists of Matera European Capital of Culture 2019. He has participated twice in the Urban Art Biennale of Volklingen Hutte, a UNESCO heritage site, in Germany. In 2014, he exhibited in New York, USA, at the Italian Cultural Institute.
