Collection: BALINESE ARTISTS

In Bali, painting is a living tradition that has been renewed several times over the course of the twentieth century. In the gallery, we present a small selection of unique works by Balinese painters, painted on paper and canvas in different styles: the miniatures of Keliki and Pengosekan, with their ponds of lotuses and herons; the narrative painting of Ubud and Batuan; and the naive, luminous style of the Young Artists of Penestanan. These are images of rice fields, harvests and gardens, all united by their meticulous attention to detail and their consistently bright, rich and vivid colours.
