As far as the eye can see the cultivated fields placed under the protection of the small Shinto temple at the top of the hill, probably dedicated to Inari, the patron goddess of rice, the staple food in ancient Japan.
On the left of the horse's harness are the protective and auspicious inscriptions of daikichi , 'excellent luck', and shiawase-kichi , 'luck and happiness'. On the horse to the right, in a single weave, daiman - daidaikichi , 'a myriad of great fortune'.
