Painter, photographer, set designer, and filmmaker, he joined the Parisian group Abstraction-Création in 1934 after a stay in Paris during which he became friends with Fernand Léger. A pioneer of abstract photography (photogram, solarization, photomontage) and experimental cinema, he developed a rigorous exploration of the relationships between geometry, color, and music throughout his life.
