To the right, an unconcerned fisherman baits his hook, while the other casts his into the river.\u003cbr\u003eNarazaki supposed that these fishermen were on an excursion from Edo and interprets them as symbols of the happy escape into nature for the city dweller. In the middle of the river are the rafts of the title, logs bound together for transport from the forests that follow the river's course to the port.
